We have been really excited so far at the opportunities we have working here. It’s an absolute privilege to be a part of working with an anti-trafficking organisation. We hope that you feel just as excited to be apart of this work as we do. We had a bit of a slow start while we were finding our feet in a new country and in between the interruptions of conferences and trips to Budapest for visas. But since getting back from Spain, it’s been full steam ahead and we’ve found it really energising!
Abolishion is totally focused on getting the restoration home setup this year. This is a pretty incredible project that you are involved in! Your support has influenced the establishment process for the first shelter for survivors of human trafficking in Oradea! And we don’t say that in some sort of vague, cliché way; we really hope you feel involved in the work that is going on here, your support makes it possible for us to be here, your thoughts and prayers are invaluable to us, your viber/whatsapp/imessage/fb message encourage us everyday and it’s so great to be in contact with you J we may be the ones here, but you are a very important part of the whole process!
In the past few weeks we have been compiling policy documents for appropriate interviewing and photography consent and communications as well as the beginnings of a child protection policy.
There have been meetings within the Abolishion team fleshing out the structure of the home and who will be involved, role descriptions of staff and volunteers, the stages the girls will go through in the home so that we are deliberately moving all of the women towards a life of restoration, full health and independence. We have been discussing the types of skills and classes we will provide for everyone in the home, as well as simple but important aspects such as a first night welcome pack for new arrivals to the home. We have established the values that the home will operate under, had a fundraising campaign brainstorming day for the home and been working on a new platform to host the Abolishion website and centralise all of it’s social interactions, emails and donations. Abolishion is partnering with a local organisation in Oradea on the project of the restoration home and we have begun weekly meetings with them to get the project really moving forward! It has felt like a super productive couple of weeks and we both feel like we’ve been able to contribute in a significant way!
